💌 Time Well Spent: Join us for Write the Thing!
Co-working invite + Free Time on Kindle for $2.99 expires soon 📘
Hi Friends,
I hope you all had a wonderful summer and that the back-to-school frenzy hasn’t been too hectic—you’re a Free Timer, after all :)
🎨 Big thanks to all who joined for our inaugural Artist’s Way summer cohort; twelve weeks is a big commitment, but even spotty adherence to rituals like morning pages and weekly solo artist’s dates make a huge difference in (re)filling the creative well.
Paying subscribers can still access the full Notion template in the footer of this email, in case you ever want to start on your own timing; mid-December is another sweet spot for setting intentions for 2025.
And a friendly reminder: Ideapress and I have teamed up to bring you Free Time on Kindle for just $2.99, expiring soon! That’s 90% off the hardcover collector’s edition :)
Now onto this week’s round-up + Plus extra goodies over the paywall rainbow at the end . . .

✍️ Write the Thing! First Wednesday of the next three months: Join us for the first co-working session on Wednesday, October 2 from 1pm ET to 1:45pm ET. This is guided co-working time (and moral support) to write what matters most: an essay, a newsletter, morning pages, an autoresponder, an invitation, an important email, a page of your book—whatever surfaces that would leave you feeling lighter ❤️
Might you also be interested in a NaNoWriMo accountability group for the month of November? If so, comment or reply and let me know :) For the first time in a decade of failed attempts, I successfully completed it last year, writing 1,675 words each day toward Doh essays (rather than a novel as the name implies), and every now and then recording them on Otter while walking, then transcribing later. I say apply the daily word count target toward whatever type of writing serves you best! The drafts I stocked up like a squirrel served me for many months afterward, and new ideas accelerated rapidly once I was in a groove.

💬 Quote & Questions
“Luxury brands are based on scarcity.
When you take on too much, you cheapen your brand. If you are a true authority, then you’re not actually very available to people. Every time you hold a meeting you don’t have to, you are eroding your perception of authority among your audience.”
—Lindsay Pedersen, Forging an Ironclad Brand
Are you cheapening your brand by lowering your prices too much? Are you accepting too many clients, or working with ones that aren’t the right fit?
Do you want to be a luxury brand or not? Not everyone has to be; there’s no right or wrong answer, but it is something to get clear on if you are starting to feel the symptoms of Burn It All Down Mode setting in.
📝 Permission
Not to be too available for your clients, unless you’re pricing for VIP-level service. Set clear boundaries, and ask an assistant to help with scheduling and project management. As my brother reminds me, “The dentist doesn’t check you in at the front desk.”

This week I added a third scenario . . . a cautionary cake tale of sorts:
