Two weeks ago, I shared author Haruki Murakami’s aha moment on why “You can’t please everybody,” and why it’s futile to try. For some reason, this is an ongoing theme in my life, no matter how much effort I put toward dismantling it. I often wonder what it would be like to truly give zero f**ks about what others think . . . the freedom!
Along these same lines, you might also appreciate a one-minute clip I shared on Rolling in Doh in a 2025 post, “Not All Feedback is Created Equal.” It’s a London-based harpist continuing to strum angelic chords even as a woman scolds her for begging, demanding to know if she got permission, threatening to call the police:
As I shared in my earlier post, I admire Robyn’s peaceful, grounded courage. She is clear on herself, her value, and her right to be there. She’s filming, so she is also in on a secret with us, the viewer; we are laughing with her.
Videos like this one make me at least a teensy bit grateful for social media, at least what little I can muster for what otherwise feels like a socially engineered profit-hungry hellscape.
I keep this clip at close reach in my memory bank so that one day, I might stay even more centered as someone offers their unsolicited opinion. I hope to hear elegant harp chords drowning out the sound of scolding as I remind myself:
Not all feedback is created equal, even if my first reaction is to treat it so.

I believe this is the first time I have heard of something called the Karen Council. Over time, people seem to be getting increasingly difficult. Fortunately, she remained calm and composed in her response to the person who confronted her.
