I think the notion of taking a break is more nuanced, at least for me. And I'm writing this as a woman who has not written her newsletter in well over a year!
There are the intentional breaks that I plan. There are the breaks you take unintentionally that may seem like procrastination, but may be your inner wisdom saying, "You're overwhelmed and it's time for a timeout." This is how I view the newsletter break. I got SOOOOO overwhelmed with other important stuff. My right hand gave me permission to take the break. She said I should envision myself like Beyoncé. Beyoncé releases an album when she'd good and damn well ready and people are thrilled to receive it. So yes, I'm channeling Beyoncé.
And of course there are the procrastination breaks. I really struggle with this idea of breaks though Jenny. Breaks from what? Is this the same or different from leisure, which in my mind is its own separate sweet thing. A break to me means a pause in between something, in this case, work.
My typical break from work often involves an outdoor walk where I listen to a podcast, time on my deck (where I write from now) or if I'm in the middle of a jigsaw puzzle (which I love and don't do enough of), I love taking a break from the computer to go and fit a few pieces and then I return to work. It's joyful.
Oooh, such a great breakdown (see what I did there ;-) of the different types of breaks you take, thank you!!
This line of your comment is so good: "Beyoncé releases an album when she'd good and damn well ready and people are thrilled to receive it." 🤩 Yes!! And so much better sometimes to have something you are truly proud of, that's in flow, than something forced and soulless just to stick to a schedule.
Love the jigsaw puzzle breaks you described within each day too — I also love walking while listening to podcasts :D
You happen to be one of the people I most admire for all the ways you build in travel and retreats! I aspire to Lisa Bowleg levels of fabulousness!! 🥰❤️
