Hi Friends,

As I shared on Rolling in Doh this week, I’m late on The Discourse™️ around what will surely go down as one of the most offensive ads in history . . . one that takes a hydraulic press to all that’s good about humanity and the arts, crushing our hopes and creative dreams along the way. Career paths that have already been struggling for air iN tHiS ecONomY.

I’m talking about Apple’s new iPad Pro debacle—or, yet another wickedly brilliant piece of marketing ragebait, you decide. Others have already written cultural critiques about the ad more eloquently than I could—here are a few favorites:

  • kyla scanlon’s When You Destroy the Tools of Creativity

  • Dan Sheehan’s Big Tech Broke Its Big Promise

  • Alberto Romero’s Apples Also Rot

  • Paul J. Pastor’s Crushing the Creative Impulse

If you haven’t seen it yet, prepare for your stomach to curl for one minute and eight seconds while watching soulless cannibal capitalism demolish a goldmine of beloved creative instruments, to the tune of Sonny and Cher’s “All I Ever Need Is You:”

Introducing NotebookLM
About five months ago, I shared the news that I was collaborating with Google on a new AI-based tool for thought, then code-named Project Tailwind. If you happened to have missed that post, or are a new subscriber to Adjacent Possible, the quick backstory is that I have had a career-long obsession with using software to augment the research and ideation…

I created a notebook where I imported all of my dad’s writing—now my brother and I can ask questions, and the answers are only drawn from DaddyO.ai. :) You could also upload dozens of research studies and ask for analysis and key themes.

“NotebookLM gives you a personalized AI collaborator . . . after uploading your [source] documents, NotebookLM becomes an instant expert in those sources so you can read, take notes, and collaborate with it to refine and organize your ideas.”

Tiago Forte did a video on how he uses it, and here’s professor
